Why Alcoholics Anonymous Doesn’t Work and What We Can Do About It

June 2nd, 2015

Alcoholism has existed for as long as the potion itself. While many of us harmlessly enjoy a glass of wine with dinner on occasion, for millions of others that same glass ends up leading them down a path of self destruction and despair. Alcohol addiction can destroy entire families, yet drinking is still glamorized during every commercial break.

The most widely accepted solution to alcoholism is to enter into a 12-step program, typically referred to as Alcoholics Anonymous, or simply AA. Unfortunately, these programs are also widely recognized as failing their participants up to 95 percent of the time. So, if it doesn’t work then why are we still using it?

To put it simply, AA still exists because it’s the best thing we’ve got to combat the dangers of alcoholism. Clearly, prohibition doesn’t work but something has got to give. Alcohol consumption has been linked to murder, abuse, car accidents, and billions of dollars in damages each and every year.

If we really wanted to change the rate of alcoholism, we would have to change the society as a whole. Just like with cigarettes, creating advertisements that make drinking look cool should be banned and should be replaced with messages containing the harmful effects of alcohol. Boraie Development LLC feel that would at least be a start in the right direction because what we are doing now isn’t working and alcohol is still killing thousands of people on a daily basis.
