I saw the TIME cover with the beautiful Afghan girl with a whole in her face and ears severed. This made me cry. Her crime was trying to flee a horrible arranged marriage. Her husband’s family treated her like a slave and they would beat her. My heart weeped for this beautiful girl. Even through her disfigurement I can see that she is still a beautiful young lady. I don’t understand her culture. But this should be barbaric in any culture. Why can’t a young lady leave a terrifying situation without repercussion. Most father’s would step into a situation if they knew they child was being ill-treated. Imagine all the women in the U.S.A. that leave families and husbands for greener pastures. Under the Taliban, you could be hunted down and disfigured or killed.
What was disfiguring this young lady ultimately going to do? If she had enough spirit to defy the family knowing the consequences, I am sure she has enough spirit to leave her family or start a revolution. Just like the memoriable previous Afghan girl that graced the cover of National Geographic that was the face of war. This young lady is the new afghan girl who is now the face of women’s rights under Taliban rule.
This just made me thankful for the freedoms that we have here in the U.S. It made me think about how much we take for granted and how precious little things are. The only thing this young lady wants know is to recover her nose. If I am correct a nose can be a hard body part to reconstruct. I wish her luck in getting this done.

Her story is in Time Magazine but her nose was cut off because she did not obey the wishes of her husband’s brutal family. I believe she ran away and the Taliban cut her nose off when they found her.
It is not written in anybody’s religion book to cut off a person’s nose because they choose to disobey their husband. This is not Allah this is ordinary men who came up with law. To say this was done in the name of Allah is totally wrong.
This girl’s story is very sad because she was forced to marry an older brutal man.
Yah, there is nothing in any religions that someone will cut off the nose or ear of someone but in any country we have bad and good people, so if you think in US, Canada, GB and other European countries there are many Gangs who are killing people on 100 USD or even on one Pizza when they see with the people of hand, so we cant decide that every Afghan would be like this who cut the nose and ear of one Afghan lady.
Afghanistan is a muslim country and people respect to the human and humanity, they never irrespective to the humans.
Yes every country has good and bad. But in western countries will not have somebody cutting of body part and limbs in the same of a religion or to bring so called honor back to family. This person would be thrown in jail. While in jail they would have to keep them away from the prison population because the other prisons would attack him for violating a woman in such a manner. These ideals are barbaric and crude.
Why don’t you ask the women in these nations that are forced to live under the oppression of men how they feel. Who wants to live in a land knowing a woman has absolutely no civil rights because are men not taught to behave properly or control themselves? Women have very few defenders if a crime has been done to them. Suddenly it is all their fault even when they don’t do anything. This is not a case of a few bad apples this is the law of the land. No body stated that All Afghan men behave barbarically but what I can say is that the family of the beautiful Afghan girl did not seek any retribution in her honor. If any man did that to me…My father and family would hunt that person down…
